Guidence Notes - UV Fluorescent Paints

Photo luminescent water based acrylic paints are specialist materials which are translucent in nature, they are very different to conventional paints.

UV fluorescent paints are formulated for optimum brightness in normal light and when exposed to UV blacklight produce a magical 'neon like' glow.

Please note that technical information, advice and suggestions given verbally or in writing are offered for guidance without responsibility.  No warranty of suitability for a particular purpose is made.  Users are responsible for testing products and suggestions to ensure they are appropriate for the intended purpose and application method prior to use.

Due to pigment variations and manufacturing processes, photo luminescent paints can be subject to slight shade differences for which we cannot take liability.  Therefore, for larger projects it is advisable to order sufficient paint not only to complete the project but to allow for touching up etc.

The paints can be applied to a variety of substrates, including textiles, paper, wood, plaster, masonry, coated metal and some plastics.  For best results the surface to be painted must be suitably undercoated with a good quality white emulsion.  This will ensure optimum brightness and depth of colour.  In addition a UV protective clear varnish can be applied over painted surfaces to reduce ageing effects due to UV light exposure.

·          Suitable for brush, sponge or spray application.

·          For large areas, particularly for single colour work, spraying should produce the best results.

·          Dries to a smooth matt finish.

·          Can be over painted.

Mixing

·          Water thinable.

·          Colours are intermixable only within our photo luminescent range.  However they respond very differently to conventional paint colours.

·          Ensure that all mixes are thoroughly stirred.

·          For airbrush and spraying, thin and strain as appropriate depending on applicator.

Surface Preparation

·          Ensure that the surface to be painted is dry, clean and free from dust and grease.

·          Previously coloured surfaces should be over painted with white undercoat.

Application

·          Coverage – approximately 2-10 square metres per litre depending on applicator.  Please note: coverage means how far the paint will go.  It does not mean opacity over an area, due to the translucent nature of this material.

·          Stir well before use to ensure the fluorescent agent is evenly dispersed in solution.

·          For best results apply two coats of white undercoat.

·          Two top coats should produce a good fluorescent effect, however depending on effect required more coats may be necessary.

·          Brighter colours, such as yellow, red and pink, may require more than two coats for the best results.

·          Touch dry within 1-2 hours depending on temperature and humidity.

·          It is recommended that at least 24 hours is allowed between applications, to ensure that all water in the mix has evaporated and, therefore, that each coat is thoroughly dry before the next is applied.  However, this will vary according to substrate and environment.

·          For maximum lightfastness and enhanced durability it is recommended that a UV protective clear varnish is applied.

·          Always ensure you use adequate personal protective equipment when using spraying applicators.

·          Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

General

·          Remove from skin using soap and warm water.

·          Clean brushes and spills with warm soapy water.

·          Spray painting may create pigment dust in the immediate vicinity.  This should be removed by either a vacuum cleaner or dry cloth.  Do not use a damp cloth.

·          Seal pot immediately after use.

·          Store at room temperature.

·          Do not freeze.

·          Young children should be supervised.

Health and Safety

·          Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

·          In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with copious amounts of cold water and seek medical advice.

·          In case of contact with skin, wash with soap and cold water.

·          Contains no lead.

·          Do not empty contents into drains.

·          Young children should be supervised

·          Low volatile organic component.
